By Staff
Services for Mazelle Moore McAlister will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Kevin Jones and Jimmy Williams officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
Mrs. McAlister, 85, of Meridian, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Heartfelt Hospice. She was an active member of State Boulevard Baptist Church for more than 40 years, working with all age groups, from nursery to the adult classes in the church.
Upon graduating from Martin School near Collinsville, she went to work at Marks Rothenberg in Meridian in the Receiving Department and would work part-time at Marks years later.
After marriage and the birth of her children, she became a full-time homemaker. An excellent cook, seamstress and gardener, she focused on serving God and family all her life.
Her love of baseball, due in no doubt to her husband and son's fascination with the sport, made her a devoted fan at games from Little League to Louisiana Tech college baseball. Known affectionately as "Mrs. Mc" she wore her lucky dress when the team was on a winning streak and was vocal at games when the batters or pitchers needed a special word of encouragement.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Richie McAlister and his wife, Alma; a daughter, Sue Ammon and her husband, Jake; six grandchildren, Mandy, Richie, Katie and Rusty McAlister, Leigh and Paige Ammon, all of Collinsville; a sister, Madge Ethridge, of Collinsville; several cousins, nieces, nephews; and caretakers, LaHoma Gray, Rue Herrington and Alberta Irby.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard M. "Dick" McAlister, her parents, Sula George Moore and Samuel Oscar Moore and a brother, Jack Moore.
Pallbearers will be Darrell Butler, Wilburt Easom, Bobby Jones, Buddy Massey, Al Mitchell and Bobby Scitzs. Honorary pallbearers will be Esco Johnson, Roy McAlister, Bob Moore, B.L. Moreland and Eddie Smith.
