The 2002-2003 Fall &Winter season is now officially underway. The Senior Citizens, Monday Nighters and Hucklebuck leagues all kicked off yesterday with other leagues slated to begin every day this week. There are still openings in some leagues for individuals and teams to fill vacant positions. If you are interested in joining any of these leagues call Dixie Bowl at 483-2283 and any of the staff will be happy to assist you. Complete teams may enter a league through next week. Individuals may join leagues at any time.
Many of our local bowlers traveled this weekend to Fort Walton Beach, Fla. to take part in the annual Emerald Coast Classic. I hope to have information on how well they fared next week.
Several tournaments are on the horizon locally in the next few weeks. The Stan's Classic Doubles Tournament continues its five-weekend run for the remainder of August before concluding on Labor Day. September will find the SASBA tour making a return visit to Dixie Bowl the weekend of Sept. 20-22. The following weekend the ladies 500/600 Club brings their annual championship to town. In October, the Meridian City Mixed Tournament runs for two weekends while in November the Mississippi State Mixed Tournament comes to town for the first three weekends of the month.
For those of you who have been asking about the junior programs, they will get underway the Wednesday and Saturday following Labor Day. The Saturday Morning Juniors at both Dixie Bowl and McCain Lanes will hold startup meetings on Saturday, Aug. 24 and begin bowling Sept. 7.
The Wednesday Fun Time Juniors will meet Aug. 28 and begin bowling the following week on Sept. 4. To place your child in any of these leagues, call Dixie Bowl or contact Leon Fike or Candace Blackmon.
It looks like a busy season is ahead of us. I would like to thank all of you for bowling with us and wish each of you the best of luck during the next nine months. I hope your season is full of fun and big scores.
