Police today were holding a 46-year-old man wanted in connection with the reported rape of a woman in Lauderdale County.
Kenneth Wayne Herrington Jr. of 5873 Omitted Road remained in the Lauderdale County jail today. He was taken into custody outside a Meridian home between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m.
Harper released information about Herrington to local news media Wednesday afternoon, and asked for the public's help in locating the suspect.
Harper said Herrington will be charged with residential burglary, kidnapping, two counts of sexual battery and one count of forceable rape.
According to police, Herrington is accused of abducting a young woman from her house late Tuesday night. The woman was allegedly transported by car out into the county, where she was attacked.
She made her way back home, Harper said.
Meridian Police Chief Benny DuBose said he is proud of his department's quick work.
