Coming Wednesday:Rediscovering America'

By Staff
Sept. 10, 2002
A couple weeks ago, The Meridian Star invited its readers to write their stories for a special commemorative edition called "Remembering 9-11, Rediscovering America."
The results of that invitation will be published Wednesday, the one-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The date also marks one year since the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 said, "Let's roll," and thwarted a planned attack on Capitol Hill.
Readers young and old contributed their work, their thoughts and their hearts about how the country has changed.
Michael Lamoreaux, a Meridian firefighter, is one of the many people who submitted a story. He is also a staff sergeant with the 186th Security Forces at Key Field. Here is part of what he said:
Pastors who gathered the faithful
A jet pilot who flew missions in Afghanistan
Retirees who remember Dec. 7, 1941
Elementary, middle and high-school students
World War II veterans
A college president who canceled classes
A young woman who was there
A "brother behind the badge"
Civic and business leaders
News reporters and photographers
Emergency workers
