SCOOBA Today is the 1st Annual God Bless America Day at the East Mississippi Community College a way of remembering the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Tommy Davis, EMCC president, signed a proclamation on Monday designating the day.
The students of EMCC stated in the proclamation that Sept. 11 will be set aside to commemorate "our allegiance to God, our college, our community, and to our hope for the future as we focus our talents and abilities on becoming leaders of tomorrow."
The students also stated that they believe in patriotism, hold respect for authority in high esteem, would like to publicly express their loyalty for the American way of life, and feel that it is appropriate to remember Sept. 11, 2001.
Before signing the proclamation, Davis told the students that he appreciated their proclamation, and he felt it was appropriate to pay tribute to God and America on Sept. 11.
He noted that only Dec. 7, 1941, had impacted his memory and American life as much as Sept. 11, 2001.
Davis said that the God Bless America Day planned for today should encourage everyone to remember the sacrifices of all who suffered and died to make freedom a reality.
He added that the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, should be used to increase patriotism and faith in God as those who perished are remembered.
