It is estimated one man in six will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some time in his life.
Men with a history of cancer in their families and African-American men age 50 or older are most at risk. Annual testing is the best way to find prostate cancer early.
Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center has held prostate screenings annually for several years, but this year it will be in a new location, at the Jeff Anderson Regional Cancer Center on 23rd Avenue.
Wayne Herrington, director of the cancer center, said multiple screening stations will be in place so that several people will be screened at the same time. He said the process, which will include a blood test and physical exam, will hopefully take only 10 to 15 minutes. Results of the screenings will be mailed to participants.
A grand opening for the cancer center will be scheduled later this year.
An interactive live television program about prostate cancer will be broadcast later this month at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. There will be a opportunity for questions and answers with a panel of experts on the program.
