WASHINGTON Funds to help expand the Noxubee County Farmers Market in Macon were approved Tuesday, officials announced.
The project will receive $130,000, part of more than $6.8 million in rural business loan and grant funds designed to help create jobs in rural areas.
The announcement was made by U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering, R-Miss., U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., and U.S. Agriculture Secretary Ann M. Veneman.
Pickering also praised the action.
Lott and Pickering said that nearly 400 businesses will benefit from the grant funds nationally, along with the expectation that at least 2,400 jobs will be created or saved.
