Tony DeVaughn of Meridian, a senior at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science, has been chosen as Emissary, a prestigious student honor. He is the son of Anthony DeVaughn and came to MSMS from Clarkdale Attendance Center.
Kristen Renee Culpepper and Adam N. Richardson have been selected to receive the Big and Ham Sanders Memorial Scholarships for the fall and spring semesters at Meridian Community College. These $800 scholarships are funded through the MCC Foundation.
Culpepper, a graduate of Clarkdale High School, is a sophomore in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. A single parent, her career goal is to receive her bachelor's degree in nursing and become a neonatal nurse. Culpepper is employed part-time at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
A sophomore studying the business program, Richardson is a graduate of Neshoba Central High School. He is a Dean's List scholar and a member of the Baptist Student Union. Richardson is a member of Good Hope Baptist Church and works part-time at Goldman Enterprises.
Brandon Pratt of Meridian has been tapped for Ole Miss Ambassadors, a student service organization. The Ambassadors work in tandem with the University of Mississippi Admissions Office recruiting prospective students.
Pratt, a sophomore majoring in business and political science, is a member of College Republicans, Campus Crusade for Christ, the University of Mississippi Forensics Team and Sigma Chi Fraternity. He is the son of Don and Sharon Pratt of Bailey.
Lauren K. Smith recently attended the 29th Annual Mississippi Keyboard Camp on the Raymond Campus of Hinds Community College. Her teacher at the camp was Elizabeth Moak, piano instructor at Millsaps College.
Smith was also recently awarded the Jessie McLendon Thrash Endowed Scholarship for the 2002-2003 academic year at Hinds Community College. This scholarship was established through the Hinds Community College Development Foundation and is awarded to a music major with a grade point average of at least 3.0.
Smith is a graduate of Meridian High School and will be a freshman at Hinds Community College.
Jennifer Marie Jones and Jaricus A. Whitlock have been selected as the recipients of the Sara and Sam Niemetz Memorial Scholarships for the fall and spring semesters at Meridian Community College.
These $1,200 awards are funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established by Mrs. Niemetz in 1990. An additional contribution came last year in the form of a bequest from the Niemetz estate.
A sophomore at MCC, Jones is a graduate of Northeast Lauderdale High School. She is a member of the Ivy League, Baptist Student Union and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Majoring in Spanish, Jones aspires to work in international relations. She is employed part-time with the Mississippi Baptist Assembly.
Whitlock, a graduate of Meridian High School, is a sophomore in the University Transfer Program. A Dean's List Scholar, he is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international scholastic society for two-year college students. Whitlock works part-time in the MCC Success Lab as a student tutor.
