For the first time the Meridian Community College Eagles and East Central Community College Warriors are set to face off on the soccer field.
The first game between the two squads will be at 7 p.m. tonight, if weather permits, in Meridian in a game that could be the beginning of a rivalry between the two teams.
Both teams have players from the local area as well as a good group of players from the Brandon area that played against each other often.
One of the big keys to the game will be defense. Both coaches feel the defense will be very important in winning the game.
The Warriors of East Central will depend a lot on the defense to stop Meridian, but will also need to attack.
John Theobald is one of the leaders for East Central. He has scored five goals and has two assists on the year. Ricky Archuleta has four goals and an assist for the Warriors. Seltue Karweaye also leads the offense with three goals and three assists.
Brandon Rodgers has five goals on the year after a four-goal game against Co-Lin on Saturday. Benton Dufour has also helped Meridian put some goals away.
East Central comes into the game with a 3-2-1 record on the season and is 1-1 in South Division play. Meridian is 3-2 overall and 2-0 in division play. The game should be a battle of two good squads.
