Oak Grove, HHS expect big crowd
Oak Grove and Hattiesburg met on the gridiron last fall for the first time in history. School officials are expected a huge crowd for the rematch at Oak Grove tonight. Hattiesburg won 55-24 last year. However, Oak Grove is currently 4-0, while Hattiesburg is 0-4. Oak Grove's starters have yet to play a down in the fourth quarter this year.
To meet the crowd's needs, portable bleachers are being brought in to seat an additional 1,500 fans at Warrior Field. Seventeen security personnel will work the game instead of the usual 10 in addition to any security officers Hattiesburg will bring.
At one time, Oak Grove officials asked USM about moving the game to M.M. Roberts Stadium, but a rental fee of $9,500 for one side of the stadium, plus the loss of all concessions ended that idea.
Oak Forest goalline finally crossed
After four shutouts to start the season, the Oak Forest Yellowjackets of Amite, La., finally yielded a touchdown in last Friday's 34-7 win over Trinity Episcopal. Dudley Guice Jr. did the honors on an 8-yard pass from Ryan Rachal.
Oak Forest fumbled the ball 11 times in the first half, but managed to recover every miscue. For the game, the Jackets had 64 plays with 61 being running plays for 332 yards. Trinity had only 10 yards rushing on 17 carries.
A sure nuff workhorse
Adams County Christian School's Luke Ogden had every reason to sleep in Saturday morning. In the Rebels' 28-14 win over Wilkinson County Christian Academy, Ogden carried the ball a whopping 43 times for 221 yards and three touchdowns.
Denson losing patience
Natchez head football coach James Denson was none too happy following his team's 52-0 shellacking from Warren Central last week.
We don't care if you score
Mantachie lost 27-14 to Caledonia last week, but found the end zone on a pair of kickoff returns. Ross Thunderburk returned one 92 yards with Johnny Turner adding an 83-yard return.
