A big 10-run inning by Northeast Lauderdale spoiled Senior Night for home-standing Southeast Lauderdale here Tuesday night.
The 10-run at bat handed Northeast a commanding 14-1 lead. The Lady Trojans went on to post the 17-7 victory.
The win improves Northeast to 21-6 on the season heading into today's game against fellow Top 10 ranked Newton County at 4 p.m. at Northeast Park. Southeast Lauderdale falls to 11-17.
Every Lady Trojan starter scored at least one run in the contest. Coach Chris Harper's team finished with 14 hits. Harper was glad to see a better effort than what occurred Saturday at Newton County.
Southeast didn't fold up scoring four runs in its half of the third to cut the Northeast spread to 14-5. They added two more in the fifth to account for the 17-7 final.
Lady Tiger head coach Ryan Miller said the recent rains have hurt the team's sharpness in the field.
We've lost a couple of games we shouldn't have, namely Carthage and one against Philadelphia. That one was 6-5 and we had a girl on third and didn't get her in. Had we won those, we'd be close to a .500 team."
Leading 4-1, Northeast began its big third with a walk and four straight hits from Amber Gray, Jana Olczak, Jayme Gardner and Capri Norris.
Following a strike out and a RBI fielders choice that made it 7-1, Northeast got two more hits from Kara Hull and Blair Rawson.
Lead off batter Raleigh Odom then smashed a three-run home run over center field scoring Hull and Rawson for a 12-1 advantage.
An error followed by doubles from Gray and Olczak made it 14-1.
Southeast got four runs back in the bottom of the third. Two Northeast throwing errors set up the frame and Madison Davis had a RBI single to make it 14-5.
A RBI hit by Hull, a run-scoring ground out by Rawson and a Southeast outfield error led to three run for Northeast in the fourth to make it 17-5.
Southeast got two runs in its final at bat when Heather Ward drove in two on a single to right.
Odom led Northeast with three RBIs off her home run. She ended with two hits and two runs scored. Gardner went 3-for-4 while Olczak had two hits and two RBI. Gray, Hull and Norris all had two hits.
Stacy McMullen and Davis each had two hits to lead Southeast. Ward drove in two while Smith and Raines had two runs scored.
The Lady Tigers conclude their season on Thursday at Clarkdale.
