The Lake Hornets have faced Thomastown only three times previously and have won handily in each of those contests. Friday's Region 3-1A game at Thomastown promises to be a much stiffer test.
Lake has beaten Thomastown 35-0 in 1993, 40-0 in 1994, and 49-26 in 2001.
Not only have the Bulldogs buried a 35-game losing streak this fall, they're off to a 4-2 start. Both teams are 3-1 in the region.
Southeast Lauderdale
at Newton County
The Cougars seek to remain unbeaten when they host Southeast at Decatur. Newton County has yet to allow any points to a Division 5-3A team, blanking West Lauderdale (28-0) and Choctaw Central (41-0).
In last week's rout at Choctaw Central, Darryl Mapp led the Cougars' ground game with 189 yards and three touchdowns (83, 10, and 73 yards) on eight carries.
Defensively, Michael Johnson had 16 tackles with Derek Mapp adding 12.
The Cougars won 21-13 at Southeast last fall to even the series at 5-5.
Union at Edinburg
The Yellowjackets look to remain in the playoff hunt when they travel to Edinburg. Union blasted the Eagles 54-14 last year to grab a 6-1 lead in the series.
Leading the Jackets are running back Anthony Johnson (9 TDs) and quarterback Quincy Patrick (8 TDs).
University Christian
at Newton County Academy
The Generals look to bounce back from last week's 43-6 loss at Hebron Christian when they host University Christian in the first meeting of the two schools on the gridiron.
The Generals had trouble stopping the run last week at Hebron as Clint Lancaster and Caleb Easter both rushed for nearly 200 yards apiece. Lancaster gained 192 yards on 20 carries
The Flames improved to 4-3 with a win over Humphreys Academy last week.
