The Ailey II dance group is touring 15 states and 38 cities including a one-night show Monday at the Temple Theatre, part of the Meridian Community College Arts &Letters Series.
The group will arrive in Meridian after performing at the Orpheum Theatre in New Orleans.
Tickets for the show at the Temple Theatre are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
The two-hour show will have an intermission.
The last of the five numbers is titled "Revelations" and was choreographed by Alvin Ailey himself.
Ailey II began in 1974 as the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, when Ailey initiated a workshop of the most promising scholarship students from The Ailey School.
The original members of Ailey II were handpicked by Ailey himself. The dance company, which emphasizes a balance of repertoire, technique and performance, has grown into one of the most popular and critically acclaimed dance troupes in the United States.
Under the direction of Sylvia Waters, artistic director since the company's inception, Ailey II invigorates the dance scene by offering unique opportunities for artists in all areas of dance.
Ailey II members have completed advanced programs at The Ailey School. They also have honed their skills while gaining performing and teaching experience during their tenure with the company usually two years.
Throughout its history, more than 30 Ailey II members have been selected to join the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Others have pursued successful careers as dancers, teachers and choreographers with other professional dance companies, on Broadway and in schools.
The dance company has also received numerous honors, awards and proclamations for its community outreach programs.
