An inmate who escaped from the Clarke County jail was being held today in the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility a state-run prison in Rankin County.
Edward Dew Jr. walked out the back door of the Clarke County jail kitchen at 7 a.m. Monday as Valley Foods delivered breakfast, said Jeff Harper, chief deputy with the Clarke County Sheriff's Department.
Dew was serving a five-year sentence for burglary. Harper said the inmate had been scheduled for transfer Monday to the Rankin County prison.
Harper said Dew was captured by Mississippi Game and Fish Warden Brock Shirley around 5 p.m. He was found in a wooded area outside Stonewall.
Dew now faces charges of escape, burglary of a camp house, possession of a weapon and motor vehicle theft which could add 20-25 years to his burglary sentence, Harper said.
