This week is a big one for the Meridian Community College soccer programs.
Both teams will have three MACJC South Division games this week which will decide if they will make the postseason in their first year playing soccer in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.
The men come into the week with an overall record of 5-4-1 and are 3-1-1 in division play. The women are 5-3-2 and 3-1 at this point of the season.
The teams will host Co-Lin today and Pearl River on Thursday. The two teams will finish off the big week by traveling to play Jones County Junior College on Saturday.
It will be the second time the teams have faced Co-Lin this season. Both teams traveled to play Co-Lin and came away with a victory. It will be important for the two teams to not overlook the visitors today.
The games on Thursday against Pearl River will also be very important for the teams. Both teams fell to Pearl River on the road earlier in the season.
The guys lost a heartbreaker to Pearl River. The loss also complicated the standings in the South Division. The Eagles have beaten Gulf Coast, who beat Pearl River. Pearl River beat Meridian to cause the competition to be wide open. At this point in the season, MCC leads with 10 total points while Gulf Coast and Pearl River are right behind.
The girls also lost to Pearl River on the road earlier in the season. Pearl River has not lost in division play and lead the division with 12 points. The Lady Eagles trail with nine points and Jones is behind at six points.
The big game for the women this week will be the Saturday game against Jones. The Lady Eagles beat Jones 2-1 in Meridian earlier in the year and will need to come away with at least a tie on Saturday to put themselves in good position.
The men will try to not overlook the Jones' men. The Eagles defeated the Bobcats fairly easily at home earlier in the season and will try to avoid a letdown at the end of the week.
