NEWTON Leaders of an annual fund-raising drive have set a goal of $64,000 to help fund community service organizations.
Kathy Stephens, executive director of the Newton Chamber of Commerce, also doubles as secretary of Newton County's United Givers Fund.
Stephens said the fund contributes to such organizations as the 4-H, the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts and the Salvation Army. She also said money from the fund-raising drive also helps libraries and schools.
Stephens said the campaign has about 20 to 25 volunteers, but also counts on large support from workers for the county's primary employers, La-Z-Boy and the Esco foundry.
