Two teams in a desperate need of the win meet Friday night in Butler, Ala.
The Andalusia Bulldogs visit the Choctaw County Tigers in a Region 1-4A game.
The two teams enter the game in 5th and 6th place in the eight-team region. Andalusia suffered a blow to its playoff hopes when Hillcrest Evergreen rallied from a 9-0 deficit to pull out a 14-9 win.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in region play.
Choctaw County is 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the region after losing at Jackson last week.
The Tigers are led by fullback Gerald Johnson and linemen Odell Williamson.
Andalusia is paced by tailback Richard Justice who had 360 all-purpose yards in a 35-31 win over T.R. Miller in week five. Justice has scored a touchdown in all but one of the Bulldogs' games.
The Bulldogs will be without fullback Kevin Dohoney. His older brother Brian is a red-shirt at the University of West Alabama.
Marengo at Patrician
The Saints knocked off one of the top teams in AISA Region 2-AA with a 35-20 homecoming win over visiting Sumter Academy last week in Butler, Ala.
This week, Patrician seeks a second win over a Top 10 team when Marengo Academy visits.
Marengo is ranked 8th in the AISA and is 6-1 on the season. The only loss was an 8-7 decision to Sumter Academy.
The Saints are coming off an outstanding rushing performance with 352 yards. Allen Gibson ran for 220 yards and scored on TD runs of 17, 7, 5 and 12 yards. Russell Cheatam had 101 yards on 15 carries.
Opening the holes for the Saints were Brian Anderson, Anthony Norwood, Brett Anderson, Troy Shoemaker, Will Norwood, Beau Meeks and Brent Bonner.
Bibb County at Livingston
Livingston was brutalized by fifth ranked and unbeaten Demopolis 77-6 last week.
Still, the Cougars remain in the hunt for a playoff berth. Coach Scottie "Scatter" Jones' club should be able to lick some wounds when they host Bibb County on Friday.
The Cougars are currently 2-3 in Region 4-4A and are tied for fourth place with Greensboro, a team they play next week. The top four teams advance to the playoffs.
Bibb County is in seventh place at 1-4 in the region and 1-6 overall. The Warriors lost to Holt 16-6 last week. Livingston beat Holt 30-0 for its first win of the season.
Flomaton at Southern Choctaw
Second ranked in Class 2A Southern Choctaw returns home to face Flomaton this Friday in Bollinger, Ala.
The Indians improved to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in Region 4-2A with a 42-6 rout of McIntosh on the road last week.
The Indians were led by quarterback Bernard McGrew who threw for two touchdowns and ran in two more along with a two-point conversion to give the Indians a 36-6 lead.
McGrew's TD passes went to Detric Causey on a 27-yarder and a 30-yarder to tight end Terrell McGrew. Jeremy McGrew ran back an interception and freshman Cedric Foster had a 9-yard TD run for the other scores.
Sumter Academy at Lowdnes
The Eagles saw their four-game winning streak end at Patrician last week with a 35-20 loss at Butler, Ala.
The loss drops Sumter Academy's record to 5-2 on the season and 3-2 in AISA Region 2-AA.
The Eagles did get two special teams touchdowns against Patrician. Roy McDaniel ran a kickoff back 85 yards for a touchdown. Then late in the first quarter, Chase Schroeder took a punt back 60 yards for another touchdown.
Daniels had the game's first score on a 1-yard TD run.
The Eagles defense, however, allowed Patrician to run for 352 yards on the ground.
This week, Sumter heads to Lowndes Academy who lost to Patrician 21-6 two weeks ago.
South Choctaw Academy at Wilcox
The Rebels celebrated a happy homecoming by pounding Lowndes Academy 42-0 last week in Toxey, Ala.
The win moves the SCA to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in AISA Region 2-AA action.
This week, the Rebels take on the top team in Region 2 in Wilcox Academy who is ranked 6th overall in the AISA. Wilcox is 6-1 on the season.
Against Lowndes, Justin Bonner ran for 124 yards and Landis Herndon added 115 yards. The pair combined for three touchdowns with Herndon scoring on runs of 51 and 33 yards.
Quarterback Rob Dahlberg threw two TD passes of 45 and 22 yards. Dusty Johnson caught the 45-yarder and tight end Corey Johnson caught the 22-yarder.
Angelo Downey led the defense with nine tackles and one assist. Jacob Jenkins made eight stops.
Sumter County at Oak Grove
The Wildcats are still trying to recover from last week's 49-0 loss administered by the top-ranked team in Class 3A in Tarrant.
Tarrant rolled away from York with the 7-touchdown victory and is now 7-0 on the season. Sumter is now 1-6 overall and 1-4 in Region 4-3A.
This week the Wildcats head to Oak Grove for another region contest. Oak Grove is 6-1 overall and 4-1 in region.
