PORTERVILLE Services for Martin L. Slaton will be held today at 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with the Revs. Charles Robbins and Mamie Lunsford officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Barham Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Slaton, 80, of Porterville died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at Riley Memorial Hospital. He was retired after 26 years with Ingalls Shipyard, where he was employed for many years as the senior boat foreman.
Mr. Slaton, an electrician by trade, was born and reared in Kemper County. During World War II, he was contracted by the Navy and operated their power plants on Guam and the Hawaiian Islands. He was a trustee and a devoted member of and a worker for Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. He was Porterville's fire chief for approximately 15 years and a trustee and past president of the Porterville Water Association.
Survivors include his wife, Sunshine Slaton of Porterville; and three sons, Bobby Slaton of Porterville, Kent Slaton of Long Beach and Gary Petty of Hurley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
Visitation will be today from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. at the church. Lunch will follow in the log cabin on the church grounds.
Pallbearers will be Herman Dougherty, Jimmy Price, Joe Price, Bill Briggs, Greg Briggs and Ike Hopper.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Porterville Water Association Board of Trustees, members of the Porterville Fire Department and his special, dear friend, Jack Amerson.
WILLIAM LEE HEARN
Retired dairy farmer
NEWTON Services for William Lee Hearn will be held today at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with the Revs. Winnie McMahon, Harold Laird and Clifton Thornton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with James F. Webb Funeral Home of Newton in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hearn, 93, of Hickory, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at Guardian Angel Hospice in Marion. He was a retired dairy farmer. He was born in Newton County and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Eva B. Hearn of Hickory; a brother, C.O. Hearn of Riceboro, Ga.; two sisters, Jewel Cochran of Hickory and Annie Miles of Collinsville; a sister-in-law, Jean Chaney of Hickory; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.O. and Arlie Overstreet Hearn.
Pallbearers will be Andy McMillan, Ryan McMillan, Bobby Caldwell, Larry Crater, Dan Steverson and Jerry Quates.
Honorary pallbearers will be Hansel Thorne and Arlie Allen.
CLAUDIE BUNTYN CUMBERLAND

PHILADELPHIA Services for Claudie Buntyn Cumberland will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Beam officiating. Burial will be in Cedarlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Cumberland, 76, of Philadelphia, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at her home. She was a housewife.
Survivors include her husband, Cleo O. Cumberland of Philadelphia; and two sisters, Julia Buntyn Shepherd of Philadelphia and Lenora Buntyn Hunter of Brookhaven.
She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Smiley Cumberland.
Visitation will be today from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
ORA SUE MCELHENNEY TAYLOR
UNION Services for Ora Sue McElhenney Taylor will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Beatline Baptist Church with the Revs. Reggie Williams and Bobby Gene Carter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Milling Funeral Home of Union in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Taylor, 83, of Rena Lara, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002. Survivors include two daughters, Helen Frances Carter and Janice Faye Sherman, both of Rena Lara; a sister, Irma McElhenney Cooksey of Lake; a brother, Ted McElhenney of Laurel; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Taylor; and her son, Earl K. Taylor Sr.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
Pallbearers will be R.L. Pugh, Micheal Wilson, Micheal Carter, Matthew Taylor, Rocky Carter and Adam Carter.

Arrangements were incomplete at James F. Webb Funeral Home for Stella M. Young, 92, of Meridian, who died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Riley Memorial Hospital.
