Three area lawmakers ought to be held to account for their opposition to medical malpractice reforms enacted by the Legislature last week and signed into law by Gov. Ronnie Musgrove.
State Reps. Charles Young, D-Meridian, and Reecy Dickson, D-Macon, and Sen. Sampson Jackson, D-DeKalb, all opposed efforts to reform this piece of the civil justice system that has driven physicians from the state and threatened the quality of heath care in their own local areas.
By their "no" votes, Young, Dickson and Jackson took the wrong stand on a most critical issue. They should make special efforts to explain their unwillingness to be part of the solution Young since Meridian is home to three major hospitals and Dickson and Jackson since health care in rural areas is such a pressing concern.
Voters in their districts should take note of their opposition to medical malpractice reform.
