Bobby Brian Harper has been selected to receive the 2002-2003 WTOK Broadcast Communication Scholarship for the fall and spring semesters at Meridian Community College.
The $1,000 award was established by WTOK-TV and is funded through the MCC Foundation.
A graduate of Southeast Lauderdale High School, Harper is a freshman in the broadcast program. He is a member of the Student Association of Broadcasters and is employed part-time at PM Productions. In addition to church activities at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, Harper is a member of the Meridian Jaycees.
Linda Gayle Jones of Taylorsville and Susan Marie Cherry of Scooba have been selected to receive the Emily Louise McDonald Scholarships for the fall and spring semesters at Meridian Community College.
These $700 awards are funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established in 1983 by Ms. McDonald's brother.
A licensed practical nurse, Jones works full-time. In Taylorsville, she is a member of the Booster Club and the Softball League. She is the mother of three daughters and an active member of First Baptist Church. Her career goal is to work in an emergency room and do part-time hospice work.
A sophomore in the nursing program, Cherry is a graduate of Kemper Academy. She is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses and works part-time at the East Kemper Recreation Club. Her goal after graduation from MCC is to continue her education to the bachelor's, and then master's, level in nursing. She is an active member of the Scooba United Methodist Church.
Jennifer Denise Smith and Delores Gail Skinner are the recipients of the 2002-2003 Elizabeth Welsh Riley Memorial Scholarships for the fall and spring semesters at Meridian Community College.
These $1,200 awards are funded by an endowment established by Dr. William G. Riley through the MCC Foundation. Each year, two outstanding students in the associate degree nursing program are chosen as Elizabeth Welsh Riley Scholars.
Smith, a sophomore at MCC, attended Louisville High School. She is a president's and dean's list scholar. Smith is a member of the Health Occupation Students of America and the Organization of Student Nurses. She works part-time at Alliance Health Center.
Skinner is a graduate of Waynesboro Central High School. Also a sophomore in the nursing program, she wants to complete her bachelor's degree after graduation from MCC. Skinner, 34, is married and has four children. She works part-time at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital in Quitman.
Terkita S. Kennedy has been selected as the recipient of the Dr. O.D. Polk Sr. Scholarship for the fall and spring semesters at Meridian Community College.
This $500 scholarship is funded through the MCC Foundation by Dr. Octavious D. Polk Jr. of Silver Springs, Md.
A sophomore in the associate degree nursing program, Kennedy is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses and the Health Occupation Students of America. She is a licensed practical nurse employed full-time at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She plans to pursue a bachelor's degree after graduating from MCC.
