Ground was broken Monday for installation of a Doppler radar system near Brandon for detection of severe weather for the National Weather Service.
The keynote speaker was Republican U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering. The radar is being moved from Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi and is expected to be installed early next year.
The radar move was approved by president Bush after Congress appropriated $3.1 million.
