JACKSON Ingomar spoiled Union's first appearance in the state slow-pitch softball tournament Thursday afternoon, beating the Lady Jackets 13-5, 2-6, and 13-5 to capture its second Class 1A state championship.
Union, which came in averaging 14.9 hits and 10.4 runs in its first seven playoff games, batted a cool .283 against the Lady Falcons, going 28-for-99.
The tournament was originally scheduled for last Saturday, but was postponed due to rain. Viverette didn't think the lack of outside work was what hurt his team at the plate.
Union finished 30-8, establishing a school record for wins.
