The Lady Raiders of Lamar School will rely on youth and good perimeter play this basketball season after losing five starters off of last year's team.
The team has been practicing hard and hopes to continue to improve throughout the season.
The inexperience is something the girls will have to work to overcome in the early stages of the season, but the players should learn and develop quickly.
One of the young players that will step into some pressure this season will be starting point guard Kristina Makey. Makey is a sophomore and will be starting her first high school game as the leader of the offense.
The Lady Raiders will start the season with a single-post offense. Senior Keely Phillips will start in the post for Lamar. Celia Covington, Lizzie Williams and Cheryl Luquire will be on the perimeter with Makey.
Stephens plans to get in a lot of other players to see what works best and may move back to a two-post offense as time goes on.
The offense may look to run a little, but will try to play smart basketball on offense.
The team will try to use it's quickness with zone defense. The Lady Raiders may even try to mix in some traps.
The Lady Raiders will start the year in a single-post offense but could move to a two-post offense. Keri Mathis and Jasmine Harris do a good job at post and could step in.
Elizabeth Luke and Semmes Ford and some of the younger girls have also been doing well in perimeter play.
The Lady Raiders will move up to face district games with Jackson Prep and some of the bigger MPSA schools this season, but Lamar is ready for the challenge.
The Lady Raiders will be in action tonight when they travel to take on Wayne Academy.
