The chairman of the Lauderdale County Election Commission said Monday the two candidates in today's runoff for county supervisor could have a tough time luring voters to the polls.
Voters in Lauderdale County District 4 return to the polls to choose a new county supervisor in a race between Rickey Harris, a county patrolman, and Joe Norwood, a photojournalist.
Both candidates are Democrats.
The winner will fill the unexpired term of the late Q.V. Sykes, who died last summer. Sykes' wife, Laura, has temporarily held the position until voters choose a successor.
Norwood and Harris received the most votes from among four candidates in the Nov. 5 general election. Norwood received 1,085 votes, or 45 percent, while Harris had 652 votes, or 27 percent.
The winner of the special election will have to run for office again next year when all county and statewide elected officials are up for a full four-year term in office.
On Monday, the Lauderdale County Election Commission prepared eight, sealed boxes for pick up by the District 4 precinct managers for today's runoff.
Watts said it's tough to have a general election one week and then schedule and manage a runoff two weeks later.
