Warriors seeking another shocker

It took nearly three years for Nanih Waiya to get a really big win for head football coach Ken McMullan. The Decatur native hopes it takes only seven days for the Warriors to duplicate that feat.
Last week saw the Warriors travel to Region 4-1A champion Mize and come away with a shocking 28-0 win. This Friday finds Nanih Waiya, 9-3, hosting Puckett, 10-1, in the second round of the Class 1A state playoffs. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Friday's game will be a rematch from Week Seven. In the first meeting, junior tailback Zack Parker had 135 yards and touchdown runs of 55 and 2 yards as the Wolves won 28-6 at Puckett. Junior wingback Terrell Jackson threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Mario Robinson and caught a 21-yard touchdown pass.
Jackson is second in Region 3-1A in scoring with 17 touchdowns. Parker has 13 and Armundo Robinson has three.
Nanih Waiya has a well-balanced offense. Junior running back Darron Hickmon and senior quarterback Trevor Stokes both have 13 touchdowns, senior wide receiver Brent Blackwell has 12, and senior wide receiver David Frey has five.
Blackwell scored Nanih Waiya's first two touchdowns at Mize on receptions of 11 and 41 yards. Frey got the third score on a 15-yard toss.
Beating Puckett will be no easy task.
