Two teams left in playoff picture

And then there were only two.
Heading into the final round of the playoffs, only two area public school football teams are still in the hunt for state championships.
In Mississippi, Wayne County's 13-1 War Eagles will take on South Panola, 14-0, Friday at 7:15 p.m. for the Class 5A state title at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson.
In Alabama, Southern Choctaw puts its perfect 13-0 mark on the line against Lineville, 11-3, for the Class 2A crown at Legion Field in Birmingham Friday at 3 p.m.
In other playoff games in Mississippi, Weir, 14-0, and Puckett, 12-1, open the five-game championship round Friday at 2:30 p.m. as they battle for the 1A crown.
On Saturday, Eupora, 13-1, and Taylorsville, 11-3, tangle for the 2A championship at 11 a.m. At 3 p.m., D'Iberville, 12-1, meets West Point, 12-2, for the 4A championship. And at 7:30 p.m., Collins, 14-0, puts its 27-game win streak on the line against Amory, 10-4, for the 3A championship.
In 5A semifinal action last week, Wayne County edged Oak Grove 28-21 and South Panola got past Southaven 21-10.
In 4A, D'Iberville scored with 19.6 seconds remaining to defeat George County 20-17 and West Point built a 10-0 lead in beating Grenada 10-3.
In 3A, Collins drubbed Newton County 46-0, while Amory knocked off previously-unbeaten Corinth 19-14.
In 2A, Taylorsville defeated St. John 34-22 and Eupora got past Baldwyn 39-32 in overtime.
And in 1A, Puckett beat Union 20-7 and Weir beat Calhoun City 20-6.
In Alabama, play begins Thursday at 3 p.m. with Clay County, 14-0, taking on Autaugaville, 12-2, for the 1A title. At 7 p.m., North Jackson, 14-0, faces UMS-Wright, 13-1, for the 4A championship.
The Friday night game has Russellville, 14-0, meeting Homewood, 13-1, for the 5A championship.
On Saturday, Colbert County, 12-2, and T.R. Miller, 10-3, battle at 11 a.m. for the 3A championship. The final game has Hoover, 12-1, taking on Jeff Davis, 11-2, at 3 p.m. for the 6A crown.
In 6A semifinal action, Hoover beat Mountain Brook 30-22 and Jeff Davis whipped Prattville 30-8.
In 5A, Russellville beat Hartselle 34-14 and Homewood outscored Briarwood 35-25.
In 4A, North Jackson stayed unbeaten with a 10-0 victory over Cleburne County. UMS-Wright knocked off Demopolis 17-0.
In 3A, Colbert County took a 44-27 shootout from Litchfield and T.R. Miller nipped Montgomery Academy 14-12.
In 2A, Southern Choctaw stayed perfect with a 20-13 win at Slocumb. Lineville slugged Pisgah 38-13.
And in 1A, Clay County kept its record unblemished with a 14-0 victory over Parrish. Autaugaville beat Isabella 18-15.
