Sumter Academy played host to Bessemer Academy in hoops action Saturday night. Sumter held off a fourth quarter comeback by Bessemer and secured the victory 72-61.
Sumter proved to be too much for Bessemer by outscoring them 38-23 from the beginning of the second quarter to the end of the third.
Leading Sumter on the scoreboard was Jay Schroder with 23 points, John Upchurch with 19 points and Wayne Malone chipped in 14. Bessemer players Robert Coleman and Anthony Jones provided nine points each.
