What is the difference between a good photograph and a great photograph? Members of the 4-H Photography Club have the answer.
These young photographers have been learning to take great photos by attending 4-H Photography Club meetings under the direction of 4-H volunteer leader and photographer Wayne Rawson.
The public will have the opportunity to see the 4-H'ers' great photographs at the Meridian Museum of Art Tuesday through Friday. A reception will be held on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m.
There will be 122 photographs on display. The top 3 photos in each of the four categories will advance to the state competition at Mississippi State University in June.
I am amazed at the quality and variety of the photos these budding young photographers have taken. Sure they took photos of buildings, friends and family, grass, flowers, trees, pets, a tree stump, and even a cow.
But what I can't describe to you is the angle and viewpoint they took the photo from. The 4-H'ers have taken ordinary everyday scenes and photographed them in a way to bring out their true beauty.
So if you desire to also take great photos, I have some questions for you to ask yourself the next time you view photographs.
Is the photo simple and uncluttered?
Is the subject slightly off center in the print?
Does the photograph send a clear message?
Are the people doing something?
Is the viewpoint interesting and unusual?
Are you close enough to avoid a busy background?
Was there any obvious "clutter" in the photo? (fingers in front of the lens, people in the background, etc.)
I do hope you will take the time to stop by the museum and view these photos. The 4-H Photography Club is open to youth ages 8-18, and any 4-H member can enter photos in the 4-H Photo Exhibit.
The 4-H Photography Club will resume monthly meetings in August. For more information on the 4-H Photography project call the Lauderdale County Extension Office at 482-9764.
