MLT ANNIVERSARY ENTERTAINMENT The Meridian Little Theatre's 70th Anniversary Gala will feature performances by both children and adults. Among those entertaining will be students from Carol Merrill Academy of Dance, who will perform to a show-stopping tune titled, "Radio City Music Hall." Grab your formal or tuxedo out of the closet and get ready for dazzling entertainment at the 70th Anniversary Gala at Meridian Little Theatre.
The event will be Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Highway 39 playhouse. Entertainment will showcase some of the area's best singers and performers.
Ginger Grissom Stevens will sing "Hello Young Lovers" from "The King and I." Twyla Hurst will perform the theme from "The Sound of Music" and Bob Hermetz will sing "If Ever I Would Leave You" from "Camelot."
Debra Lau will perform the theme from "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," state Rep. Greg Snowden will sing "Grow For Me" from "Little Shop of Horrors" and Kristen Johnson will sing "Climb Every Mountain" from "The Sound of Music."
The Alpha Hi-Steppers will step out to a Broadway melody. Members include Judy Crowson, Joann Dobbins, Nancy Dowling, Joyce Frank, Barbara Hall, Debbie Jackson, Celeste Little, Jacque Longmeier, Phyllis Shields Nuckolls, Peggy Randall, Majel Slade and Beryl Webb.
Pat Gray will stage a musical number for MLT's youth division. Carey Smith and Friends will provide the music.
Presenting awards at the gala will be C.D. Smith, president of MLT; Tommy Dulaney, vice president of MLT; Sally Johnson, president of MLT Guild: Lisa Carruth, vice president of MLT Guild; Kim Mosley, chairman of youth division; Pat Gray, director of youth division; John Johnson, MLT actor; Sarah Margaret Huff, MLT actress; Frank Coleman, former member of Board of Directors; and Ranee Grantham, former member of Board of directors.
Dan Self and Norma Veach will open the ballot announcing the membership's choice of the "Best Production" during the last 20 years.
Mayor John Robert Smith will recognize two artists who have contributed artistically to the theater during the past 20 years.
70TH ANNIVERSARY GALA
When: 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Where: Meridian Little Theatre, Highway 39 North.
Tickets: $35 a person or $70 a couple.
The event: The night will include a heavy hors d'oeuvres buffet, entertainment and an awards ceremony. Dress is formal.
Benefit: Money raised will fund a new paint job and roof.
Proceeds will match approved grants from the Mississippi Arts Commission.
