Motorists in Lauderdale County should be aware of road work, according to Mississippi Department of Transportation officials.
Weather permitting, workers will mill and overlay Highway 19 inside the city limits of Meridian this week beginning each night after 6 p.m. Crews will work at night, but will be out of the way each morning before rush hour begins.
MDOT engineer Kent Reeves said working during non-commuter hours should help reduce the disruption of traffic flow.
The $883,000 contract to rehabilitate Highway 19 from 49th Avenue to Hill Street was awarded to APAC Mississippi Inc. The project is expected to be completed in July.
Motorists who must travel through this area are advised to drive carefully and to observe all highway advisory signs. MDOT regrets any inconvenience the work may cause.
