The huge success of Collinsville Family Day inspired the community of Russell and Russell Baptist Church to stage a similar event.
The result Russell Family Fun Day will take place beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Lisa Mimbs, a member of Russell Baptist Church, is helping plan the effort. She said the goal is to raise between $15,000 and $20,000.
Mimbs said a smaller group went to the Bahamas last year.
Mimbs said Russell Family Day will be similar to Collinsville Family Day and the Arts in the Park.
A co-ed softball tournament will coincide with Russell Family Fun Day. According to Mimbs, five teams will play in a round-robin format.
Mimbs said she hopes Russell Family Fun Day will continue.
