Two separate one-vehicle accidents resulted in as many fatalities Friday in Lauderdale County.
Lauderdale County Deputy Coroner Clayton Cobler said the victims, both males, were pronounced dead at the scenes of the accidents.
The first accident happened about 7 a.m. on Interstate 59 near the Savoy exit.
Michael Griffin, 27, of Raceland, La., was pronounced dead on impact. Cobler said Griffin was driving a large truck that ran off the side of the road. He said the Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
The second fatal crash was at the intersection of 118 Will Garrett Road and Highway 80 in Toomsuba.
Cobler said Olice Williams, 70, of 4297-E Old Wire Road, was pronounced dead at the scene and may have died behind the wheel of his car prior to the crash. Cobler said both of the bodies have been sent to Jackson for autopsy.
Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said the highway patrol is also investigating the Toomsuba accident.
