The Newton County Sheriff's Department charged two suspects today with four counts of burglary of a church after Sheriff Jackie Knight arrested them Sunday.
Knight said he and his deputies arrested Wesley Gilbert, 31, of Alabama, and Tina Roberts, 30, of Florida, shortly before midnight during a patrol of the county's churches.
Knight said that Gilbert fled the truck on foot while Roberts remained inside. Deputies found Gilbert about 30 minutes later hiding in a tree house in the woods behind a nearby house.
Knight said the two also are suspects in home and church burglaries in other Southern states, including Tennessee and Mississippi.
Knight said deputies confiscated amplifiers, jewelry, televisions, knives, albums and more from the vehicle.
