NMO wins 12-under slow-pitch tourney

North Meridian Optimist beat Collinsville Royals 16-12 and 8-7 to take the gold medal in the State Games 12-under slow-pitch softball tournament late Saturday night at Northeast Park. The Royals rallied from an 8-2 deficit with five runs in their final at-bat, but were unable to complete the comeback.
Collinsville Royals had won 8-7 over NMO in the earlier undefeated game.
NMO knocked off Quitman 9-4 and West Lauderdale 22-7 before losing 8-7 to Collinsville Royals. An 18-4 rout of Philadelphia Phillies put NMO in the finals.
Members of NMO are Shelley Odom, Lainie Simcox, J'Quandra Hickman, Mindi Turnipseed, Sarah Beckman, Kylie Rowell, K.C. Buckley, Lindsay Lang, Alexandra White, Mallory Pace, Brittany Jackson, and Lauren Lang.
Members of the silver medalist Collinsville Royals are Sydney Cagle, Kayte Ford, Morgan Swancey, Sooby Cooks, Martika Ivy, Kayla Boutwell, J.J. Frazier, Anna Tittle, Kala Massey, Brittney Cochran, and Amber Lantz.
Collinsville Royals beat Lady Ravens 28-6, Philadelphia Phillies 10-9, and NMO 8-7 before losing twice to NMO in the finals.
The Philadelphia Phillies took the bronze medal in the eight-team double-elimination event.
Members of the Philadelphia Phillies team are Lauren Nicholas, Sierra Farlow, Hailey Chisolm, Shelby Smith, Emily Breland, Sidney McDonald, Casey Risher, India Whittle, Jodie Apperson, Laurel Burnett, and Megan Peebles.
12-under fast-pitch
Batesville Dixie Darlins defeated Amory 12-2 and Meridian Most Wanted knocked off Ellisville Xplosion 7-4 in the two late games of the 12-under fast-pitch tournament Saturday night at Northeast Park.
Dixie Darlins finished the four-team round-robin event with a 3-0 record to take the gold medal. Most Wanted went 2-1 to take the silver and Xplosion went 1-2 to take the bronze.
Members of the Dixie Darlins are Halie Plummer, Hiliari Plummer, Lacie White, Cassie Brooks, Kasie Kelsay, Melonie Gaters, Courtney McCuller, Jennifer Newcomb, Bethany Moore, Morgan Lawrence, Ellen Farrish, and Haley Walton.
Members of Most Wanted are Lauren Robinson, Sara Beckman, Katie Sanders, Cayla Coleman, Jessica Clark, Erin Adcock, Lauren Rogers, Cory Roberson, Olivia Whitlock, and Brittany Pippin.
Members of Xplosion are Kayla James, Heather Wilcox, Elisha Ray, Kalli Dickerson, Haley James, Paige Jenkins, Holly Robinson, Shalynn Gatlin, Porsche Dyer, and Lauren Flynn.
18-under fast-pitch
New Albany Lady Dawgs beat Batesville Complete Computers 13-6 to take the gold medal in the 18-under fast-pitch division Saturday night at Northeast Park.
New Albany finished the four-team round-robin tournament with a 3-0 mark.
Members of the New Albany team are Jocelyn Cameron, Mallory Sanford, Holly Cook, Starrana Frazier, Sierra Coltharp, Beth Reed, Robin Merritt, Suzanne Roberts, Sara Beth Parks, Whitney Speck, Bridget Latham, Kuri Washington, Kristen McMillen, and Anna Parks.
Complete Computers went 2-1 to get the silver medal. Members of Complete Computers are Ashley Golden, Leann Parrish, Kelly Capwell, Jessica Anderson, Christain Bailey, Camille Willis, Lauren Lange, Sarah Long, Kathleen Snyder, and Shea Golden.
d'Iberville Lady Warriors beat Vicksburg Vipers 10-2 for the bronze medal. Members of the d'Iberville team are Tiffany Brosh, Caitlin Gilmore, Stephanie Ratliff, Alyson Taylor, Krissi Moore, Amber Derouch, Sarah Hornby, Ashley Allen, Nicole Allen, Candace Lestrade, Ashleigh Hornby, and Shaughnessy Hill.
