Teresa Scarborough says her daughter, Hayley, is a "camera hog" but that's a good thing.
The experience in front of a camera will help Hayley as she represents Mississippi at the Miss U.S. Model Contest on July 17-19 in Nashville at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel.
Nineteen-year-old Hayley is a sophomore at Meridian Community College, where is a member of the Eagle's cheerleading team.
She was chosen as the Mississippi representative after applying online, completing a lengthy application and submitting professional photos.
Hayley, who has been a model for the Liberty Shop in Meridian for two years, decided to compete in the program for one reason scholarship money.
But Hayley's parents, Teresa and Rodney Scarborough, were leery about their daughter applying for something over the Internet.
Hayley, who describes herself as a "clothes freak" said modeling gives her confidence and makes her feel good about herself.
If she wins, Hayley will receive a cash scholarship, a crown, a vacation package, a photo shoot, clothing and modeling agency representation.
The competition is for young women ages 9-24 who compete in four age groups. Hayley will participate in the college division.
In addition to the main portion of the pageant, which she will be scored on poise, personality, beauty and modeling, Hayley will also compete in the photogenic competition.
Hayley is not the only one in her family who loves modeling. Her cousin, Hannah Davis, 11, of Greenville, S.C., formerly of Meridian, was selected to represent South Carolina.
Hayley said she is still trying to "find her niche," but hopes modeling will open doors for her.
ONLINE VOTE
One of the categories in the Miss U.S. Model pageant is an online popularity vote.
