ECCC signs McLaurin kicker
DECATUR Mitch Myers, a standout kicker/punter at McLaurin High School, has signed a national letter of intent with East Central Community College for the 2003 football season.
Myers (5-9, 160) received All-State honors in Class 2A and was an
All-District Six performer. He was also selected the district's most valuable punter for the 2002 season. He made 11 of 15 field goals (73 percent) and missed only one PAT. His longest field goal was 47 yards. He averaged 35 yards per punt. His longest punt went 57 yards.

Pre-Majors roll to victory
CLARKSDALE The Meridian Pre-Majors (15-16-year-olds) defeated Moss Point 8-4 on Sunday. No reports were received from Monday's action.
Kendrick Martin had two singles and Justin Scott smashed a double to lead Meridian at the plate, while Cory Chance struck out seven batters in three innings on the mound.
Chance also had a single for the winners, as did Randy Dively, Nathan Peden, Parker Temple and Kyle Boswell.

Dixie Majors lose on Sunday
CLARKSDALE The Meridian Dixie Majors (17-18-year-olds) dropped a 3-2 winners' bracket game to Petal on Sunday. No report was received from the team's Monday game with Marion County.
Richmond Alexander had two hits, scored a run and drove in one to lead Meridian at the plate, while Tyler Maxwell had two hits as well. Blake Pippin and Jody Blount added one hit each for the Meridian squad.

Kerry Earnhardt loses ride
Busch Series veteran Tim Fedewa will replace Kerry Earnhardt in the No. 12 FitzBradshaw Chevrolet Monte Carlo for the New England 200 at New Hampshire International Speedway this weekend.
Earnhardt, the oldest son of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, has struggled this year. In 19 starts he has failed to finish in the top 10. His best finish is 14th, pulling that off four times. His average start is 21st and average finish is 25th.
He has amassed $366,385 in winnings so far this season.
