Meridian Dixie Majors eliminated at state tourney in Clarksdale

CLARKSDALE The Meridian Dixie Majors were eliminated from the State Dixie Majors Tournament here Tuesday night in Clarksdale.
The Meridian Majors were beaten by Jackson 6-5 in 10 innings. North Jackson advances to play Petal in the championship round.
The Meridian Pre-Majors suffered their first loss in the Pre-Majors State Tournament falling to Purvis 7-5. Meridian will face Carthage today at 5 p.m. at Clarksdale in an elimination game. The winner advances to face Purvis in the championship round on Thursday.
In the Majors game, East Mississippi player John Iverson pitched 8 1/3 strong innings but could not get a decision. Iverson allowed just five hits and walked just two while striking out 10.
Trent Posey came in relief and went 1 1/3 innings and was saddled with the loss. He walked four.
Meridian was led on offense by Iverson who had two doubles and two two runs scored.
Maurice Cole drove in two runs off one double. Blake Pippin had a single and a run scored. Drew Anderson had a hit and a run scored while Jody Blount had two hits and a RBI.
In the Pre-Majors game, Anthony Linton went 1 1/3 innings to suffer the loss. Cory Chance and Tyler McMullen pitched in relief. McMullen went 3 innings allowing just one hit and two walks while fanning four.
At the plate, the Meridian Pre-Majors saw Tyler McMullen have a hit and score two runs. Randy Dively had a hit and two runs as well.
Maurice Boyd had one hit and one run while Ronnie Warren, Michael Davis and Cory Chance all had a hit apiece.
