Our community's response

Sometimes residents are so close to a community tragedy that even their best responses seem to go unappreciated. This is not and should not be the case in the wake of the July 8 shootings at Lockheed Martin. Our leaders and the community at large deserve high praise for their calm, measured reactions and for emphasizing the fact that the acts of a lone gunman do not reflect who we are.
The Meridian Star today commends the many, many unselfish acts of compassion that marked the days immediately after the shootings. We hope that same prayerful spirit will continue to guide our community during its time of healing.
We also believe it can be illustrative to see how others outside the immediate area view this community. The following editorial is reprinted from our sister newspaper, the Kosciusko Star-Herald, whose publisher, David Sullens, is a former editor of The Meridian Star. We appreciate the view and share it today with our readers:
