As we approach the final two weeks of July, it is hard to believe but the 2003-2004 Fall/Winter season is now less than one month from getting underway.
League schedules will be available soon and we look forward to seeing the beginning of the new season. League secretaries and officers are reminded that it is time to begin making sure teams are filled and ready to go.
Of course new bowlers are always welcome to join us. If you are interested in taking part in one or more of our leagues in the upcoming season, call or come by Dixie Bowl Lanes. Any of the staff will be happy to help you find a league that is right for you. As always, we will feature men's leagues, ladies' leagues and mixed leagues. The junior leagues will be kicking off after Labor Day on both Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning. So, bowlers, it's time to start getting ready. Get that equipment cleaned and make sure those shoes fit and we will see you at the lanes!
Time is running out for those ladies wishing to attend the annual workshop for 2003 which will be held in Vicksburg on Saturday, Aug. 9. The workshop will be held at Battlefield Inn and will be followed by a No-Tap singles tournament at Red Carpet Lanes. The workshop will also include a special buffet luncheon. Preregistration is required if you wish to attend the luncheon. Entry forms are available at Dixie Bowl so get yours filled out and mailed as soon as possible. Remember, you must attend the workshop in order to be eligible to take part in the singles tournament.
The 2nd Annual Handicap Doubles Tournament is scheduled to begin next Friday, Aug. 1 and run each weekend through Labor Day. This year the tournament has teamed with Coca-Cola and is offering a $4,000 First Place guarantee regardless of the number of entries.
You may participate as often as you like and may compete with up to three partners at one time. Optional events will include Brackets (each shift) and High Game Pots (overall tournament). Women will receive a handicap of 90% of the difference of 210. Men's handicap will be 80% of 210. It's good to hear that Meridian bowler Brad Bynum was not as seriously wounded as we had initially been told in the Lockheed Martin shooting and is up and about and on the road to recovery. We look forward to seeing you back on the lanes as soon as possible, Brad.
