Candidates for Lauderdale County supervisor in all five districts will face the public tonight in the campaign season's first political forum at the Meridian Municipal Courtroom.
Meridian Community College and the Human Relations Commission of the Lauderdale County Council of Governments will sponsor the 6:30 p.m. forum which will be broadcast live on Comcast Cable channel 12.
All five Republican candidates for District 1 supervisor and the two for District 3 supervisor are scheduled to attend. Because no other candidates are running, those races will be settled either in the Aug. 4 GOP primary or a possible Aug. 26 runoff.
Baxter said some candidates in the District 2, 4 and 5 supervisor races also are scheduled to attend.
The forum will begin with the District 1 candidates. Each will be allowed a one-minute opening statement, one minute for closing remarks and one minute to respond to questions from a panel of local media representatives.
Baxter said another forum will be held in October for statewide candidates, including governor and lieutenant governor candidates.
