R.D. Harris brings impeccable credentials and the experiences of a learned man back to Meridian High School, where he is taking over as principal. The decision to offer him the position he held from 1979-93 and his decision to take it are positive developments for this city's troubled, and only, public high school.
A former English teacher at MHS, Harris has worked with the state department to develop plans for school improvement, and with struggling schools in Mound Bayou and North Panola, where test scores improved greatly after he stepped in.
Harris' return is a good move for Meridian High.
