Patrick Clark Sims said she noticed that her daughter, Kamilia Sims Miller, could sing when she was about 9 years old.
Sims said she comes from a family of singers and always encouraged her three children to get involved in music.

But it was Sims' husband, the Rev. Kenneth Sims, who encouraged the mother and daughter to perform together.
Sims and Miller call themselves "Pileha" which means "worship and singer of the covenant."
It may be her husband who is the motivater, but it's Sims, 44, and Miller, 23, who climbed onstage July 19 to perform at the National Christian Artist Talent Search at Trinity Music City in Nashville, Tenn.
They performed an original song titled, "Stand Up," which was written by Miller.
Semi-finals
Miller and Sims were one of 25 groups from all over the United States brought back for the competition's semi-finals.
For Miller, the competition was a way to share her love of music with others.
Miller is referring to their July 26 trip to Atlanta to perform in another talent search for an audience of several hundred.
Actress within
Miller said she has always wanted to be an actress. She has performed at Meridian Little Theater and in productions at Meridian Community College, where she earned a broadcasting degree.
She is also a new mother. Miller and her husband, Jarome, have a 19-month-old daughter, Jarah.
Miller, who has written more than 60 songs in the past year and penned her first poem at age 9, said she performs not for the money, but for the experience.
