The opening bell for the 2003-2004 Fall/Winter season will ring in just six days. We hope you are ready for another exciting season of fun and competition.
The opening salvo will be fired Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. with the Senior Citizens league meeting, followed that night by the organizational meetings for the Monday Nighters and Hucklebuck leagues at 6:30. All other leagues will meet on their respective nights at their normal bowling times.
New to this year's schedule will be a Non-smoking Senior Citizens league, which will bowl Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. Anyone interested in joining any of our leagues are encouraged to call or come by Dixie Bowl Lanes where any of the staff will be happy to assist you.
Several of our local bowlers made the trip this past weekend to Fort Walton Beach, Fla., to take part in the popular Emerald Coast Classic tournament. Of course, I have no information on how they fared yet, but I will be letting you know anything I found out in the upcoming weeks.
You may remember that Candy Blackmon captured the Ladies Singles title a couple of years ago. Though it may be a couple of days late, good luck to you all.
The 2nd Annual Handicap Doubles tournament also got underway this weekend at Dixie Bowl Lanes. The tournament will run each weekend this month concluding on Labor Day. Bowlers are competing for a $4,000 First Place payout. This is a multiple participation event which means you may bowl as often as you like. You may participate with up to three partners each time you bowl. Complete entry forms and schedule information is available at Dixie Bowl Lanes or you may sign up online at
Summer league action is beginning to wind down. All leagues will conclude this week with the exception of the Tuesday Summer Mixed which will have its final week of competition next Tuesday. In action last week, Greg Taylor fired off a nice 277 game while Jim Broderick, Jr. put together a nice 703 series. Tandee Marx kept up her hot summer performance with a nice 224 game. We hope you have all enjoyed your summer and we look forward to seeing you next week for another season of rolling and bowling.
