Houses destroyed in early-morning fires

Two Lauderdale County homes were destroyed in separate fires early today.
Clarence Butler, the county's fire coordinator, said seven different volunteer firefighter units responded to the two separate house fires.
Firefighters from the Russell, Toomsuba, Marion and Northeast volunteer fire departments responded to the first fire at about 2 a.m. a home on Russell Topton Road whose occupants were out of town.
Hours later, volunteer firefighters from Whynot, Causeyville and Vimville responded to the second fire a vacant house on Harvey Chatom Road.
