The Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors got a late start on Monday's meeting when a sealed bid for construction of a bridge on Beaver Pond Road went missing.
Terrell Temple, an engineer with Engineering Plus, found the opened envelope from Jay Bearden Construction Co., based in Richland. But the bid wasn't there.
Temple told supervisors the envelope had been inadvertently opened and the bid was apparently discarded.
Temple said Jay Bearden Construction will resubmit its bid by fax today. The Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors rescheduled its bid opening for 11 a.m. today.
Other companies that submitted bids were J&M Construction in Lauderdale, and D&E Construction and Davidson Construction, both in Meridian. The Beaver Pond Road bridge must be repaired because it was damaged by floods.
Besides the bid opening, supervisors also will begin budget meetings today. District 3 Supervisor and board president Craig Hitt said he expects the budget process to last through Thursday.
After supervisors go over the budget, it will be given to County Administrator Rex Hiatt for revision.
In other business on Monday, supervisors approved the expansion of the Northeast Volunteer Fire Department district.
Residents who live within five miles of the Northeast Fire Station, along Highway 45 and Russell Topton Road had petitioned to be annexed into the Northeast Volunteer Fire Department district.
The petition was submitted on behalf of the residents by Clarence Butler, executive director of the Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency and county fire coordinator.
