If you are interested in playing a string instrument, then Upbeat! wants you.
Upbeat! is a group of area musicians some beginners, some advanced who love music and want to perform.
The group was reactivated in June 2002, when a meeting was held at Peavey Melody Music to elect new officers and transfer all records, information and equipment.
Rather than limiting the members of Upbeat! to area youth, organizers decided to open membership to those of any age who want to play stringed instruments and perform with an orchestra.
The current 27 members range in age from 6 to 60-plus.
The number of members projected for the 2003-2004 season is 35.
Upbeat! performances and activities for the upcoming year include:
September: Performance at Bonita Lakes Mall
October: Performance at Meridian Museum of Art
November: Preconcert program 30 minutes before a Meridian Symphony Orchestra concert at MCC's McCain Theatre
December: Christmas concert at First Presbyterian Church
February: Program for residents of Riley Nursing Center
April: Performance at Arts in the Park
May: End-of-year concert and awards program
