With the start of a new season, the Meridian High School football program is starting a new tradition.
Two Wildcat football players and two cheerleaders were accompanied by representatives of the school's administration and the program's booster club Thursday afternoon, as they presented students at Poplar Springs Elementary and Witherspoon Elementary with free tickets to tonight's game against Clinton High School as a reward for the students' performances in the classroom.
Kicker Andrew Gambrell and wide receiver Will Compton, along with cheerleaders Ashton Tureaud and Claire Melancon, talked to the assembled students about the importance of school and what high school life is like.
Tureaud and Melancon also taught the students a cheer to use at the game
