First-year Clarkdale head coach Gary Lee resigned as the football team's head coach on Friday.
The Decatur High School graduate stepped down from his post following the Bulldogs' 20-6 loss to Enterprise Thursday night dropping the team's record to 0-2.
Lee was hired to take over Clarkdale's program, that posted its first winning record since 1982 last season, in July.
The Bulldogs went 7-4 in 2002, and made their first playoff appearance in school history.
Lee, who also coached at Kemper Academy, Oak Grove and Lamar School, took over the Bulldogs just two weeks before the start of preseason practice.
Lee said the Clarkdale administration was fine with his decision to leave the team.
Miller said assistant coach Joey Ethridge will take over the head coaching duties for the rest of the season on an interim basis.
Miller said Lee's departure came as a surprise to the players, but the school will deal with the situation as optimistically as possible.
