Mississippians will hear the works of a working composer when the Mississippi Broadcasting Networks presents the music of Meridian Community College's Carey Smith.
The director of instrumental music and bands at MCC will have his music, "A Salute to the Navy," and "Piano Concerto No. 1," air on 88.1 FM "Mississippi Concert Hall" today at 12:06 p.m. and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
The program features artists and ensembles from across the state.
The music was performed for the February 2003 Meridian Symphony Orchestra concert, "Carey Smith: A Musical Kaleidoscope." The program was digitally recorded and later fine tuned for this broadcast. In addition, an interview with Smith and MBS Music Director Greg Waxberg complements the program.
A multi-channel compact disc of the MSO concert featuring "Carey Smith: A Musical Kaleidoscope" is expected to be released this fall.
Smith's works have been aired on public radio in his native state of North Carolina.
