The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum will establish a new athletic award on Nov. 3 at the Crowne Plaza in Jackson.
The Museum will introduce a college baseball player of the year award named after long-time Delta State University head coach Dave "Boo" Ferriss, who played at Mississippi State University (1941-1942) and for the Boston Red Sox (1945-1950). He also served as the Red Sox pitching coach from 1955-1960.
Ferriss will be honored at a tribute dinner and the evening's event will help establish funds for the award.
Admission to the dinner will cost $100 per ticket, and Pulitzer Prize winning author David Halberstam, who wrote the current bestseller "The Teammates," will be the featured
